Universal robots was officially founded in 2005 with an aim to make robot technology accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises all over the world. Universal Robot’s first product was the UR5, a 6-axis robot arm, which revolutionised the market for industrial robots. Some years later, the UR10 joined the family – a robot arm with a higher lifting capacity and reach which was better suited for large tasks. In 2014, Universal Robots launched the UR3, which is the world’s most flexible, light-weight table-top robot, which can collaborate closely with humans. Today, Universal Robots’ various robot arms are the only robots in the world to intelligently adapt advanced safety settings to each individual use. As a market leader in robot arms, Universal Robots has so far sold more than 37,000 collaborative robots which are used in thousands of production environments every day across the world.

THE JOB
Universal Robots offers free online training (e-leaning) and certified training in the use of their robot arms via Universal Robots Academy. The material used for the training comes in different formats, but all materials have to be translated in order to be available to the users in the markets where the company has a presence. That is why the need for translation increases as the company grows. At the beginning, Universal Robots needed translation from English into 2-3 other languages whereas today, it is 11 languages, and more languages are planned in the future.
For Universal Robots, it was important to find a flexible translation provider which was attentive to detail. The provider had to be able to grow with the company and handle translation into all new languages. They had to be able to ensure consistent terminology in the translated material and be ready to live up to the various requirements and guidelines for translating e-learning and printed training material. That includes translation of everything from screen texts to video manuscripts, ensuring that the texts match the e-learning modules in every language.
THE SOLUTION
The choice fell on AdHoc Translations which is today the go-to provider of translation to all departments of Universal Robots. The reason was that Universal Robots felt sure that with AdHoc Translations, they would get a provider which was ready to go the extra mile required to handle complex projects into many languages.
Universal Robots wanted to send the training materials in various file formats (Excel, Word, PPT), and the solution agreed was that no matter the form and file format, AdHoc Translations would translate the material using the termbase and translation memory built to ensure consistent language and terminology while keeping expenses down. A preferred team of translators has been chosen for the job, and the translators have solid knowledge of Universal Robots’ products, terminology and tone of voice which helps assure quality and reduce the proofreading stage.
